“I’d like to have several homes,” said Madeline Cooper as she quickly
glanced across the room at the gumball machine. “I think, Paris, Rome,
Malibu....and New York City!” Certainly not a bad set of selections for
the 11 year voice student at School of Groove. Upon review, ambition
may also be a word worth mentioning in passing. Madeline and I
have just been talking over the last few minutes about how her music
idols, Avril Lavigne and Alicia Keys probably got their start just the
same way she did. Taking lessons and working hard. Being a naturally
curious person, Madeline’s statement was more than enough to incite my
