 Who comes to camp.groove?
Players age 8 through 18. No auditions are required so players of all backgrounds come to camp to learn a superior cast of performers and instructors.

How do we compare to other camps…and why is camp.groove so affordable??
camp.groove is a summer program developed by School of Groove. Okay…so what? Well, that means that instead of spending 2-3 weeks teaching students each year, testing out new ideas, and writing curriculum, we are working 365 days a year (i suppose you can discount a few holidays in there…) to figure out how to educate kids in music. So, when summer comes around, we’ve tested the waters, figured out what works, and what doesn’t work, so that your son or daughter can have the best camp experience possible.
Since we have our own facilities, we don’t have to spend a ton of money renting out a summer facility. That’s why we’re less expensive. You’re not paying our rent. You are paying exclusively for the highly trained professionals and guest artists that are at camp.groove to provide your child with an outstanding musical experience.

Do you have instruction for beginners?
Yes. We do have a group designed specifically for those who have limited experience on their instrument. This class will focus on building musicianship, working with a team, and communicating within a group.

What is the cost?
Fees are $450 for each student. Register before June 1st to receive $50 off camp tuition. We do not offer family discounts since the cost per person for us is the same for each person.

Refunds
If participants cancel, fees are refundable minus $50 per person. The deadline for cancellation is midnight July 1st, 2008. After the deadline, we do not give a refund unless we receive a medical excuse from a medical doctor.

 What does the fee include?
The fee includes all meals, instruction and concerts every evening. Those attending must stay in a hotel or find their own lodging. We do have a recommended hotel.

How and when do I register?
Registration can be done at any time. A $100 deposit is required at time of registration.

 Do you take part-time participants?
No, the camp is only available for the entire five days of instruction. One of the beautiful advantages of camp are the friendships that result from the camaraderie between students. All campers will be preparing for performance, and they will be required to attend all rehearsals in preparation for the final performance.

I have special dietary needs. Can they be met at camp?
We offer vegetarian meals and any special needs may be arranged by the kitchen crew. Atwood’s Tavern is the catering crew and they are most accommodating to special needs in addition to serving delicious meals. Please notify us of any dietary concerns in your registration form.

What is the daily schedule like?
Classes start daily at 10am and run all morning. After lunch, band rehearsals/classes last until 4pm. Students will be placed in a band of their choice with similar level players. Bands will rehearse with one instructor for two rehearsal sessions each day in preparation for the final performance.

When will I get the schedule for the week?
You will receive the schedule when you arrive at camp. All directions, a what to bring list, and other instructions will be with the registration materials which you can print from the web site.

 May I record classes?
You may make audio/video recordings of classes. You may take still photos. YOU MAY NOT VIDEO TAPE evening performances.

 Do you offer scholarships?
Our ability to offer scholarships is dependent on contributions to our scholarship fund. Most students needing financial help find it from their local music organizations. To apply for a scholarship we require a letter from the person's music instructor. These letters should be sent before June 1st to School of Groove, 883 Cambridge St. Cambridge, MA 02141.

I am coming from out of town. Where can I stay?
School of Groove has relationships with several hotels and the area. Please contact us for assistance.

Where can I rent an instrument?

Rayburn Music (617-266-4727) is a reputable music instrument rental company in Boston with reasonable rates.
