a personal trainer
-noun
a person who works one-on-one with a client to plan or implement an exercise or fitness regimen.
Okay, that's what Mr. Random House Dictionary has to say about it. We tend to think that this is a pretty good explanation. Perhaps we'd replace the word "fitness" with "practice," but outside of that, it seems to explain pretty well what we do at School of Groove.
We work one-on-one to discuss problems and to come up with ways to solve them. We're not really big on method books. They're kind of boring, and they don't always answer the questions you may have. We've been here for a while, and have tried a few things, and have found that people are really different. Some people understand some things right away that others might struggle with. That's our challenge, to find a way that everyone can figure it out.
So, what do we do in private lessons? Seems like a good question. FIRST, we discuss with you want you're interested in, what your goals are, and what you think of Britney Spear's latest single...er, well then we proceed to chart a course for success. We want to meet you where you're at. If you like rock music, then we're going to teach you how to play your instrument through rock music, not classical, not jazz, but rock. We're also going to encourage you to explore alternative styles of music, because this will help you to form your own UNIQUE VOICE IN MUSIC! That's our goal...it's to make you sound like you, and like nothing else that's come before. And yes, we do mean that in a good way!
